How to Add a Photo to the Website Photo Gallery
The Dallas Metroplex Striders website uses a photo sharing process to show photos on the Striders website.
Upload photos to Flickr and tag them with a unique keyword - doing so makes them show up on the Metroplex Striders website.
Flickr is a photo sharing site (www.flickr.com). Follow the below steps to share your photos...
1) Get a Flickr user account (they are free). If you have a Yahoo account, you can use your Yahoo username (Flickr owned by Yahoo)...
IMPORTANT NOTE: When you set up your Yahoo/Flickr account, you must make it visible to the public (not private). If you make the Flickr account "private", no one can see the account or the photos in the account.
2) Upload your photos to Flickr...
IMPORTANT NOTE: When you upload the photos, you must make sure that they are marked as "public" - to be shared with others. Those photos that are not shared cannot be seen on the Metroplex Striders website.
3) Tag the photos with a unique keyword (that follows the below keyword naming convention)...
The unique keyword is set up by the Metroplex Stiders website administrator (and/or the photography coordinator).
Use the keyword naming convention for the unique keyword is...metroplexstriders.year.eventname
The "year" is the year the photo was taken (2011, 2012, 2013, etc).
The "eventname" is unique to that event (a meet or an event such as texasrelays or nikesouth).
IMPORTANT NOTE: After tagging your photos on Flickr, inform the website administrator of the tag(s) used on the photos. IF THE WEBSITE ADMINISTRATOR IS NOT AWARE OF THE TAGS, THE ADMINISTRATOR WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE THE TAGGED PHOTOS SHOW UP ON THE WEBSITE.
Following the naming convention allows Flickr users to easily search for all or part of a keyword - for example, searching on metroplexstriders.2010 will find ALL photos of the Striders taken in 2010. Or searching for nikesouth might find ALL photos related to Nike South (in any of the years).
Note: it takes the Striders website a few minutes to pick up new photos loaded to Flickr. The Striders website uses a "feed" of tagged photos from Flickr and needs a few minutes to pick up the feed once photos are loaded/tagged correctly on Flickr.
